Historical Memory-Oriented Peace Education and the Sustaining Peace Agenda

Abstract The sustaining peace agenda, fielded by the UN in mid-2010s, offers an opportunity to take a fresh look at ways which we approach our applied, everyday work on and/or for classroom and beyond. Regarding field of education, there is merit adopting less prescriptive, value-laden universalising and, same time, more indeterminate, normatively restrained humble elements that set discourse apart from conventional international peacebuilding as have known it. In this respect, incorporating focus historical memory can enhance strength value education world riven with crises, disunity violent conflict. Rather than upholding notions universal values, independent local culture historically formed power relationships, idea be achieved righting individual mind; or seeking bring about far-reaching social transformation alleviate plight oppressed marginalised empowering them resist fight, such strives enable learners (and teachers) towards healing past trauma recognising “other” moral agent.
